Cancer (Oncology)

NewYork-Presbyterian is home to two of the nation's leading cancer centers – the National Cancer Institute-designated Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center of New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center and the Weill Cornell Cancer Center of NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

As a leading cancer center, NewYork-Presbyterian treats some 7,500 adult and pediatric patients newly diagnosed with cancer each year. As a leading academic medical center, our physician-scientists and researchers are leading more than 500 clinical trials involving thousands of patients. And, the results of this research frequently moves from "bench to bedside" to become tomorrow's standard therapies.

Our physicians use a multidisciplinary approach to care. This brings together clinicians from different specialties and departments to ensure that patients are receiving care for their whole body and mind, not just their cancer.

Our adult and pediatric patients have access to the latest anti-cancer drugs, novel and targeted therapies, and emerging minimally invasive surgical procedures. In addition, our comprehensive support programs address the emotional and physical challenges faced by cancer patients.

Stephen G. Emerson, M.D., Ph.D., Director of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at NewYork-Presbyterian, discusses what makes HICCC one of the top cancer centers in the United States.
Gary K. Schwartz, M.D., Chief of the Division of Hematology and Oncology and Associate Director of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at NewYork-Presbyterian, talks about advances in cancer treatment.
