The minimum age to volunteer is 14 years of age.

What is the process?
Once your application is received, it is reviewed and assessed. If we have an opening for the time, day, and program you are interested in, we will send you a card asking you to call in for an interview. Once interviewed in our office, you will be referred to a direct supervisor who will also interview you. After the interview process, you will have a medical screening provided by the hospital at no cost. You will attend a 2 hour Volunteer Services Department orientation. Once these steps are completed, you are ready to begin.

How long does it take to be processed?
On average, it takes 4 weeks to be completely processed and ready to volunteer.

Is there a dress code?
Yes. Volunteers are not allowed to wear blue jeans, sweatpants, sweatshirts open toe shoes, t-shirts or shorts. All volunteers will be given a smock that they must wear over their clothing while volunteering.

Can I volunteer just for the summer?
Yes. Summer volunteers must commit to a minimum of 15 hours a week for 10 weeks. Summer applications are due by March 31st.

No. We do not offer shadowing or clinical experiences through the volunteer office.

Do you have research positions available?
No. Research positions are not offered through NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital's Volunteer Services Department.

If I volunteer will I get a job at the hospital?
Volunteering at the hospital does not guarantee employment.

How long do you keep applications?
Applications are held for three months only. If you do not complete the process within three months your application will be discarded (unless otherwise approved by the volunteer department).
