NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital is particularly well-known for our expertise in pediatric heart surgery, including the care of newborns. The NewYork-Presbyterian Congenital Heart Center is a joint program between NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital and NewYork-Presbyterian Phyllis and David Komansky Center for Children's Health . Each year, our pediatric cardiac surgeons perform more than 700 cardiac operations, including some 175 heart repairs in newborn infants.

Our surgeons routinely treat some of the most complex cases, many referred from other institutions. U.S.News & World Report has ranked our pediatric heart and heart surgery program as one of the nation's top 10.

In newborns, we specialize in the treatment of transposition of the great arteries and hypoplastic left heart syndrome. In infants, we provide expert surgical repair of Tetralogy of Fallot, ventricular and atrial septal defects, coarctation of the aorta, and atrioventricular canals. Close to 100 percent of our patients survive ventricular septal defect repair, even in premature and very low-birth-weight babies.

Our center features a distinguished roster of highly skilled and experienced cardiovascular surgeons, including national leaders specializing in complex neonatal surgery. In addition to cardiovascular expertise, we offer newborns collaborative, multidisciplinary care provided by experts in all subspecialties that may be needed when treating a complex heart problem ─ including fetal diagnosis, neonatal intensive care, and non-invasive imaging. Our experienced pediatric anesthesiologists, intensive care specialists, perfusionists (who operate the heart-lung machine), and nursing staff all have dedicated expertise in pediatric cardiac surgery.

We take a family-centered approach to care, involving parents in all aspects of the treatment process.
