Our Services - Maternal fetal Medicine

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital uses state-of-the-art tools such as these to diagnose and monitor maternal and fetal health:

• ultrasound, fetal echocardiography, Doppler ultrasound, MRI, and genetic sonography to assess the developing fetus
• first-trimester screening for Down syndrome, ectopic pregnancy, multiple pregnancies, and fetal abnormalities
• prenatal diagnosis using amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling (CVS), and fetal blood sampling (cordocentesis)

• heart disease
• hypertension (high blood pressure)

• multiple pregnancy
• seizure disorders

Women with co-existing conditions are cared for by renowned specialists -- such as cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, neurologists and neurosurgeons, gastroenterologists, endocrinologists, oncologists, urologists, immunologists, and others -- with whom the Maternal-Fetal Medicine team has a long history of closely collaborating. These specialists are located in the same medical center and can be accessed immediately before, during, and after childbirth, should the need arise. This proximity and easy access to the breadth of specialists is invaluable when treatment within minutes can impact an outcome.
