The Mothers' Center: Maternal Fetal Medicine

The Mothers' Center at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center is dedicated to providing comprehensive coordinated care for pregnant women with other illnesses or medical complications who require specialized care. Our Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) experts and specialists in various medical and surgical subspecialty areas collaborate to customize treatment plans to meet each patient’s unique needs. Services include:

  • Coordinating appointments with specialists
  • Providing counseling, including preconception counseling
  • Establishing a management plan for optimal patient care

This center of excellence serves as a national model for the care of medically and surgically complex obstetric patients. The Mothers' Center team is also conducting research that will contribute to improved care and education outside of the institution.

Patients at The Mothers' Center benefit from the resources, research, and world-renowned expertise of physicians at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. The Mothers' Center is the only such comprehensive care center in the country.

Patient Referrals

Patients may call The Mothers' Center directly to schedule a consultation. A clinical care coordinator will work with you to acquire medical records, answer questions, and provide support.

A referring physician may call The Mothers’ Center for further consultation, co-management, or transfer of a patient requiring delivery at our facility for maternal complications. The Mothers’ Center also offers second opinion consults and will refer the patient back to her primary physician’s care if it is determined that she can be safely managed and delivered in her community. The referring physician will be provided timely feedback regarding our findings and recommendations.

No matter how a patient is referred to the Center, we understand the need for prompt testing and consultation with all relevant specialties, and we schedule visits quickly and conveniently. Our Care Coordinator will help provide compassionate, individualized attention from the first contact.
