Head and Neck Cancers

Head and neck cancers include those of the

  • mouth
  • throat
  • sinuses/nasal cavity
  • larynx
  • thyroid
  • skull base
Although, alcohol abuse and tobacco use are the primary causes of head and neck cancers, doctors are now seeing patients without those risk factors whose disease may be associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection.

The treatment of head and neck cancers frequently requires a combination of approaches, including surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. The goal of treatment is to provide therapy that is effective in eradicating the cancer while preserving patients' appearance and function, minimizing the effects on quality of life.

At the Weill Cornell Cancer Center at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, we take a multidisciplinary approach to the care of patients with head and neck cancers, bringing together a team of

  • medical oncologists
  • radiation oncologists
  • surgical oncologists
  • reconstructive surgeons
  • pathologists
  • radiologists
  • speech and swallowing therapists
  • psychosocial support specialists
  • other experts
Patients receive integrated, seamless care in a compassionate environment.

The team of professionals at the Weill Cornell Cancer Center is committed to providing excellent care from the moment a patient comes through our doors.
