Women At Risk

Stacey Garil Womack Resource Library

The volunteer breast cancer survivors who staff the Stacey Garil Womack Resource Library provide information and support to women undergoing screening, diagnosis, and treatment for breast cancer, and assist patients and families who visit oncologists for consultation regarding other cancers.

Located in the Avon Products Foundation Breast Center of the Herbert Irving Cancer Center, the library offers resources and publications on breast cancer, early detection, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, clinical trials, reconstruction, nutrition, sexuality, and regional support groups and services, among other topics.

Through the generosity of The Libby Ross Foundation, newly diagnosed breast cancer patients who visit the Resource Library receive a special Pink Ribbon Bag, an attractive canvas bag filled with comfort items.

The volunteers welcome visitors and invite people into the Resource Library for coffee, tea, conversation and information.

The Resource Library is located in the Herbert Irving Pavilion, Tenth Floor, Room 1035, 161 Fort Washington Ave.

Volunteer Opportunity with the Resource Library

Volunteers MUST be breast cancer survivors, who are at least TWO years out of treatment.

New volunteers are trained for approximately four hours, in two sessions, by an Oncology Social Worker and the Library Coordinator, and spend three half-day sessions as 'interns' with regular library volunteers. After that time a new volunteer can assume either a weekly half-day assignment, or act as a substitute for volunteers at vacation times.

Interested Volunteers should contact Jenny Saldaña, at (212) 305-9894
