Spine Therapy
The physical therapists of NewYork-Presbyterian hospital provide individualized treatments to patients with back or neck pain and dysfunction. We offer expert treatment for conditions such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis, radiating pain, coccyx pain, osteoarthritis, impingement syndromes, whiplash injuries, TMJ (temporomandibular joint dysfunction), postural syndromes, fractures, congenital disorders, and spinal tumors. We also assist in the recovery process after surgery to alleviate pain and stiffness, and restore function.
The goal of physical therapy is to control pain, re-establish normal movement, strength and flexibility. Patient education to improve posture, and re-educate the body to prevent continued or further pain is of utmost importance. Our highly trained therapists will utilize a variety of hands-on techniques and exercise approaches to achieve the best possible results. Ultimately, we want to help our patients reach their own personal lifestyle goals. Many of our physical therapists are APTA-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialists and hold additional advanced training in areas including:
- The Feldenkrais Method
- McKenzie Mechanical Diagnostic Therapy
- Functional Manual Therapy
- Maitland Joint Mobilizations
- Craniosacral Therapy
- Pelvic Floor Dysfunction
- Aquatic Therapy
- Pilates
- Yoga
