Burn Rehabilitation
The rehabilitation team at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center is proud to be affiliated with the William Randolph Hearst Burn Center, one of the largest and busiest burn centers in the nation. Occupational and physical therapists, recreation specialists and research staff are part of this interdisciplinary team, helping adult and pediatric burn survivors reintegrate into the community.
Our interventions are vital to the physical, emotional, social, and functional rehabilitation of patients who have suffered burns and other severe wounds. Treatment begins early on and continues throughout the hospitalization and finally to outpatient therapy with continued follow-up care.
During all phases of care treatments may include:
- Therapeutic exercise
- Splinting and scar management
- Manual techniques
- Activities of daily living and functional mobility training
- TCI computerized imaging and fabrication of custom transparent face masks
Inpatients are treated individually and in group therapy sessions including exercise groups, support groups, and cooking groups. Individual and group play sessions are also available for children through the recreation program. Outpatients are seen by appointment.
We have an outstanding team of professionals conducting research studies on the rehabilitation of this unique population of patients.
