Therapeutic Recreation
Therapeutic Recreation or "Recreational Therapy is a service designed to restore and rehabilitate a persons level of functioning and independence in life activities caused by an illness or disabling condition. Recreation specialists provide treatment and education, and offer adapted recreational opportunities to aid in improving and maintaining physical, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning thereby enhancing independent living skills and overall quality of life.
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists have a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Therapeutic Recreation and are certified by the National Council on Therapeutic Recreation Certification. The certification requires a combination of education and experience before a professional is considered eligible for examination.
