Eating Disorders

The term eating disorders refers to a variety of disorders. The common feature of all the eating disorders is abnormal eating behaviors. Eating disorders are serious mental health problems and can be life threatening.

Anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder are common eating disorders among adolescents and young adults. Obesity may also be included as an eating disorder and can affect individuals of all ages, including children, adolescents, and adults.

NewYork-Presbyterian offers treatment for eating disorders at its Center for Eating Disorders at NewYork-Presbyterian's Westchester Division, an expansive, park-like campus in White Plains, New York.

Evelyn Attia, M.D., is The Center's Director

The Center's programs are designed to help individuals with eating disorders work toward recovery in a comfortable and supportive environment, and ultimately achieve and maintain healthy eating habits and a healthy weight.

White Plains is about 25 miles north of New York City and is easily accessible by car or train. It is also accessible from Connecticut and New Jersey and is within minutes of the Westchester County Airport.

The Outlook

The Center's focus is The Outlook, a modern inpatient unit that is a collaborative effort between NewYork-Presbyterian, Weill Cornell Medical College, and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, in affiliation with the New York State Psychiatric Institute.
