Depression may be associated with a number of factors. NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia healthcare professionals assess patients through a dedicated Depression Evaluation Service. Medical treatment and counseling are available through a number of programs, including inpatient and outpatient care.

Special services are provided for children and adolescents, college students, women, and older individuals in upper Manhattan, at the Upper East Side facility, and at Columbia's offices at Columbus Circle. Treatments include brain stimulation and ""light therapy."" NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia also conducts research aimed at better understanding the causes and effects of depression in an effort to devise more effective therapies.
