The care of patients with bipolar (manic-depressive) disorder can be highly complex, and much remains to be discovered about the condition. At NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia, patients with bipolar disorder undergo a thorough evaluation and can receive medical treatment and counseling. Inpatient and outpatient care are available. Special programs are offered for children and adolescents, college students, and women.

Research is also under way to learn more about bipolar disorder in an effort to define more effective treatments. The Brain Behavior Clinic recognizes the challenges of providing safe and effective treatment for psychiatric disorders and is dedicated to the study and provision of innovative treatments for adults with bipolar and other mental health disorders.
