Overview
NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, The University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell, announces a part-time extended unit internship that entails 400 supervised hours of ministry practice and learning. The seven month-long program, which usually begins in mid-October and ends mid-May, is held 14 hours weekly, with at least 4 hours of educational seminars on the scheduled weekday in the afternoon or early evening and 10 hours of chaplaincy visitation with hospital patients and families, with hours to be determined by the student.
Such a part-time program allows for CPE to be a learning context that enhances personal and professional development with other educational, ministry, life and work commitments. Participants will include chaplains, clergy, qualified laypeople, members of religious orders, seminarians and graduate students who have motivation to minister and learn in a collegial and challenging setting. The curriculum focuses upon competencies in self-awareness, interpersonal relating, pastoral care, and ministry development. Each student designs an individualized learning contract. Weekly seminars will provide a context for the review of pastoral encounters, the exploration of peer relationships and in-depth learning through group and individual supervision regarding pastoral practice.
