Hand and Upper Extremity Service
Physicians at the Hand and Upper Extremity Service of Weill Cornell Orthopaedics treat a wide variety of conditions affecting the hand, wrist and elbow.
Conditions we treat include:
- Hand, wrist, and elbow disorders (elbow contractures, tennis elbow, trigger fingers, wrist tendonitis)
- Fractures of the hand, wrist and elbow
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Arthritis of the hand, wrist and elbow
- Elbow pain
Diagnosis
We use x-rays, CT scans, MRIs and ultrasound to diagnose problems of the hand, wrist and elbow.
Treatment
Our physicians take a conservative approach to treating hand and upper extremity problems. We use non-surgical treatments whenever possible. These may include hand therapy and exercise, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or corticosteroids (injection and medication).
When surgery is necessary, our team, which specializes in elbow surgery as well as reconstruction of the elbow, wrist and hand, utilizes minimally invasive surgical techniques whenever possible and works with you to provide comprehensive care. In addition to physicians, our team includes a hand therapist, who specializes in rehabilitating patients with conditions affecting the hands and upper extremity.
We work with patients to design and implement exercise programs to increase motion, dexterity and strength, and provide training in the performance of daily life skills through adapted methods and equipment.
