NYP/Lower Manhattan Hospital

Lower Manhattan Hospital Home Page

Whether they are needed for diagnostics or treatment, NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital's array of radiology services play a critical role in patient care and wellness. Our radiological expertise can support an accurate diagnosis, determine if a patient requires surgery, or be used during interventional therapies. From progressive imaging for the improved detection of breast conditions to ultrasound-guided biopsies, our comprehensive radiological services give physicians and patients the information needed for optimal patient care. These services include:

  • general diagnostic imaging
  • bone density
  • breast imaging
  • magnetic resonance imaging
  • nuclear medicine
  • ultrasonography

General Diagnostic Imaging

Radiographic and fluoroscopic exams provided include thoracic, abdominal, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary imaging.

Bone Density (DEXA Scan)

DEXA scanning has become the most widely used method for measuring bone mineral density. DEXA scanning more precisely documents small changes in bone mass and is also more flexible since it can be used to examine both the spine and the extremities. A scan of the spine, hip or the total body requires only one, two, or four minutes respectively. DEXA scanning is less expensive than alternative measuring processes, exposes the patient to less radiation, and is more sensitive and accurate at measuring subtle changes in bone density over time or in response to drug therapy.

Breast Imaging (Mammogram)

High-tech screening mammography, diagnostic mammography, breast sonography, and breast MRI are available in a private and comfortable environment. Guided biopsies for lesion analysis are also performed. All imaging is in strict compliance with the FDA's Mammography Quality Standards Program.

Computerized Tomography (CT)

Sophisticated scanners capture a broad scope of diagnostic imaging, including exams of the head, spine, chest, abdomen, pelvis, extremities, and cardiovascular system. Among these advanced technologies is a low-dose CT scanner, which provides high-quality imaging at the lowest possible radiation dosage. CT-guided interventional procedures, such as biopsies and drainages, are also performed.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

MRI exams are performed for neurological, abdominal, musculoskeletal, vascular, and breast imaging in the Hospital's state-of-the-art MRI suite.

Nuclear Medicine

A wide range of scintigraphic imaging is provided, including exams of the thyroid, lungs, kidneys, bones, and gastrointestinal system.

Ultrasound exams are available for abdominal, hepatobiliary, obstetrical, pelvic, and vascular imaging. Ultrasound-guided biopsies and aspirations are also conducted.

All NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital physicians are on the faculty of Weill Cornell Medical College. Within the familiar setting of their community hospital, patients experience a level of care found in a leading academic medical center.
