First Graduation of Lang Youth Medical Program
Six students from Washington Heights and Inwood became the first graduates of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s Lang Youth Medical Program, a one-of-a-kind mentoring program that shepherds kids with a passion for science and medicine through middle and high school. The six students, many of whom are children of immigrants, were honored at a ceremony on June 16 at NewYork-Presbyterian’s Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital as they prepare to begin college in the fall. The students spent six years working alongside doctors and researchers in a hospital setting, where they learned about medical technology and observed operations and attended medical lectures. The Lang Program is entirely funded through donations and is dependent on support to continue the work first started by noted philanthropist and program founder Eugene M. Lang.
