TEEN POWER - Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program

With the support of the New York State Department of Health, CCHE operates TEEN POWER, a community-based adolescent pregnancy prevention program in two intermediate and one high school sites (IS 52, Stitt Campus and 136/Bread & Roses Campus). The goal of TEEN POWER is to expand pregnancy prevention education among adolescents, to link students directly to reproductive and other health services, to provide positive youth activities, to involve young men and to reduce teen pregnancy.

The TEEN POWER Program conducts extensive classroom, small group and individual education and other outreach activities with youth to engage them in pregnancy and STI prevention. The program also draws them into the School-Based Health Center's practice for all medical and mental health services. After-school sports and media activities engage youth and facilitate innovative social marketing campaigns through the distribution of creative materials in stores (bodegas), and nail and hair salons in the community. Teacher and parent education is also provided and promoted.

TEEN POWER collaborates with Creative Arts Workshops for Kids and, through this collaboration, has produced incredible art projects of colorful murals, installation art, silk screening and photography. Since 2008 students have introduced these art projects to the wider community through a special partnership with the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA).
