Center for Acute Respiratory Failure
For Physicians
Advanced medical therapies available at the Center for Acute Respiratory Failure at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center include:
- ECMO (veno-venous and veno-arterial)
- Pulmonary Embolectomy
- Lung-protective ventilator strategies
- Advanced ventilator modalities
- High-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV)
- Airway pressure-release ventilation (APRV)
- Other advanced modes of ventilation
- Inhaled vasodilator therapy
- Inhaled prostacyclin
- Inhaled nitric oxide
Lung transplantation is not typically an option in the acute setting. However, a small number of patients may be candidates for a lung transplant evaluation if they have a chronic underlying lung disease and meet other well-defined criteria, including the ability to participate in the evaluation process.
