Neurology at The Allen Hospital

The Department of Neurology at NewYork-Presbyterian/The Allen Hospital cares for patients who require inpatient care, providing neurology consultation services. Our neurologists are specially trained to manage the often complex care of hospitalized patients on a daily basis. They meet with family members, follow up on tests, answer nurses’ questions, communicate with the patients' personal physicians, and address any treatment issues that may arise.

Our neurologists have expertise in caring for patients with the following types of neurologic disorders:

Seizures (epilepsy)
Migraines
Strokes
Alzheimer's disease
Multiple sclerosis
Parkinson's disease
Spine problems
Nerve damage that may present as numbness or weakness
Neurological symptoms from conditions such as diabetes and thyroid disease

To perform neurologic evaluations, the Neurology Department provides electroencephalogram (EEG) evaluation for seizures, as well as evoked potential testing to record the brain's electrical response to visual, auditory, and sensory stimuli.

The Allen Hospital is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a comprehensive Stroke Center, and in 2012 received the Gold Plus Award for superior stroke care from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.

Patients who need neurosurgery are transferred to our colleagues at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center for further care.

Patients at The Allen Hospital experience a level of care found in a leading academic medical center, while being cared for in the intimate setting of a community hospital.
