Medicine at The Allen Hospital

Physicians in the Department of Internal Medicine at The Allen Hospital provide a wide range of non-surgical primary care services to adult inpatients and outpatients in northern Manhattan, Riverdale and other communities in the Bronx. Our physicians treat cardiovascular disease, diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders and respiratory conditions such as asthma, and are involved in cancer prevention and detection.

Our physicians are generally the first and most consistent provider of healthcare for patients, and also serve as the link between patients and physicians in other departments where patients may be referred for more advanced care. Additionally, the Department of Internal Medicine houses several sub-specialties where patients may be referred to as well.

"Intensivists" & "Hospitalists"

Also on staff in the Department of Internal Medicine are physicians known as "Intensivists" and "Hospitalists." Intensivists have specialized training in critical care medicine and oversee the general health of patients in The Allen Hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Hospitalists care for inpatients at The Allen Hospital whose personal physician lacks admitting rights for the hospital.

About Our Physicians

All Allen Hospital physicians are also on the staff of New York-Presbyterian/Columbia, one of the country's major medical centers. In addition, each of these physicians is on faculty of the highly regarded Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. This means that patients experience a level of care found in a leading academic medical center while they are being treated in the intimate setting of a community hospital. Because our physicians are affiliated with New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, our patients have access to Columbia's advanced equipment when needed.
