Gastroenterology at The Allen Hospital

The Division of Gastroenterology is part of The Allen Hospital's Department of Medicine. Gastroenterologists at The Allen Hospital provide non-surgical treatment for adults with a wide range of gastrointestinal disorders, such as GERD (gastroesophageal reflux), H. Pylori infection, ulcers, gastrointestinal cancers, hepatitis, gallstones, colon polyps, and inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

We have the latest generation of endoscopes available, which allow us to detect conditions such as Barrett's esophagus and flat polyps in the colon.

Procedures We Perform Include:

• Upper Endoscopy -- to evaluate causes of numerous symptoms, including abdominal pain, dysphagia (swallowing difficulty), bleeding, nausea, and vomiting; to obtain tissue samples for analysis; and to remove polyps or treat bleeding.
• Colonoscopy -- to examine the lining of the colon to remove polyps or assess other abnormalities.
• Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) -- to examine the ducts of the gallbladder, pancreas, and liver and to remove bile duct stones.
• Video capsule endoscopy of the small bowel, using a pill-sized camera to examine the inside of the small intestine for sites of bleeding or abnormal growths.
