Ambulatory Care Network Community Health Education and Outreach

ACN Contact Center

Overview

The NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Ambulatory Care Network Appointment Scheduling schedules appointments for patients and providers seeking care at our primary and specialty practices.

The Center was established late in 2002 to centralize appointment scheduling to the Ambulatory Care Network practices. Calls are received via a toll-free number 1-866-4MD-APPT (1-866-463-2778) or via menu options when calls are placed to participating sites.

Goals
  • Facilitate scheduling by having staff dedicated to answer telephone calls for appointments. These staff members can also create medical record numbers and verify insurance.
  • Direct callers to appropriate NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital services if unable to schedule requested appointment directly.
  • Assist external providers in obtaining requested services at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital for their patients.
Performance - 2008
  • Handled 210,000 calls.
  • Made 85,500 entries into the appointment scheduling system.
  • Improved performance by increasing average speed of answer and decreasing number of calls abandoned.
  • Processed 3,000 faxed requests from external providers seeking appointments for their patients.
