Residency Training - Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

Selection Process/Application

Selection Process

Trainees interested in joining the NYP Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Training Program must meet the minimum requirements for sub-specialty training, including the completion of one year of internship and either two or three years of general psychiatry residency training. Most residents accepted to the program begin our program at the PGY-IV or PGY-V level of postgraduate training.

The NYP Child and Adolescent Psychiatry program requests a completed application by October 15, 2015 (see below) to be eligible for consideration. International medical graduates are welcome to apply but must provide a copy of their ECFMG certificate in addition to Visa status (we are unable to support H-1 visas) along with the other application requirements. The program director, associate program directors, and program administrators review each application in its entirety. Decisions for interviews are based on that review and availability, so timely submission of application materials is encouraged.

Interviews for selected applicants are conducted from September to December.

A complete application to the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) site is required and must include the following items:

  • Application
  • Personal Statement
  • 3 Letters of Recommendation, Including one from your training director and one from an attending Psychiatrist who served as a direct clinical supervisor in the past year
  • Official Medical School Transcript
  • Official Copy of your MSPE (Medical School Performance Evaluation/Dean's Letter)
  • Official USMLE Score Reports (Steps 1, 2, 3 or Equivalent)
  • Program Director's Verification Form Attesting to Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) Fellowship Eligibility. The completed form should be attached at the end of the Training Director LOR and uploaded into ERAS. Should you have difficulty uploading this form, it can be mailed directly to the Program Director.

In addition to the above required by ERAS, we also require:

*Indicates items to be included by foreign medical graduates only

  • Copy of Medical School Diploma
  • Copy of Current Medical License (if you have one)
  • Copy of ECFMG Certificate*
  • Proof of Visa Status If not a US Citizen (Please Note NYPH only Sponsors J1 Visas)*

Please submit completed applications no later than October 15, 2015 for the 2016-2017 academic year. Applicants will be considered for interviews following the review of completed application packets.

The additional application materials and inquiries regarding the selection and application process should be addressed to:
