To serve as advocates and ambassadors for the NewYork Weill Cornell Medical Center as an academic medical center supporting patient care, research and education. Through fellowship and friendly interaction, we strengthen the ties between Weill Cornell Medical College and the Weill Cornell campus of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
Since its creation in 1982 as the Advisory Board of The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, the Council has served as an important link between Weill Cornell Medical College and the Weill Cornell campus of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. The concept behind the Council emerged from years of discussions between the leadership of the Hospital and the Medical College, seeking to foster stronger ties to individuals and constituents with an expressed interest in the success of both institutions. Previously, although each institution had its own governing board, no representative body existed to promote the shared goals of the Medical Center as a whole. The Council’s mandate, as stated in its charter, was to serve as a forum for dialogue between the Hospital and the Medical College and as an advocate for their mutual interests.
After over 25 years, the NewYork Weill Cornell Council is more vibrant than ever. Members advance the mission of the Council, serving as advocates and ambassadors for the Medical Center and its tripartite focus of patient care, medical education and research. Through fellowship and friendly interaction, members strengthen the ties between Weill Cornell Medical College and the Weill Cornell campus of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Members receive information about the exciting medical advances taking place at the Medical Center, and are represented at all major institutional gatherings. Most important, members provide financial support to the Medical Center through philanthropic gifts, and encourage support among their friends, colleagues, and business associates.
