Margaret McGregor has almost three decades of Medical/ Surgical experience
at C P M C. She is an Orthopaedic Nurse Certified (ONC) and a respected
member of the Orthopaedic Nurses Association. She is also a member of Sigma
Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing.
Sharing her "outstanding fund of knowledge" on 2RW, an active unit which
serves orthopaedic, gynecologic, urologic and general surgery patients,
Margaret is acknowledged for her "incredible dedication to patient care."
Several colleagues referred to Margaret's "phenomenal patient advocacy
skills" and to her own dictum, "The day I am not a patient advocate is the
day I leave nursing." One colleague noted that "she always alerts us to
social and personal issues intrinsic to a patient's well-being."
Margaret is commended for "going the extra mile" to accommodate patients'
requests or assist fellow staff. Whether the task involves adjusting
traction, proper positioning, or explaining the care of orthopaedic
appliances, she "tactfully and patiently" provides crucial direction. "Her
teaching talents are extraordinary."
Referred to by a colleague as a "sterling example of professionalism in
nursing," Margaret was instrumental in setting up unit standards of
practice when the Allen Pavilion first opened. Margaret "maintains a
holistic view of the patient and frequently serves to educate and integrate
the efforts of multiple specialists." One colleague suggested that "her
observations and actions have saved many lives." Margaret expects the best
from everyone on her team, and because of the tremendous amount of respect
she has earned by her daily devotion to excellence, she gets it.
