LuKan (Lu) Gorman joined the CPMC staff in 1974. She has a Master of Arts
degree in Nursing Education and a wealth of medical/ surgical and cardiac
care nursing experience. Lu is distinguished by colleagues as an "exemplary
leader" and "decision-maker" who works closely with staff to exceed
standards of care. In her role as the Nurse Manager of the 6HN and the
Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Lu artfully manages a demanding schedule of
advanced clinical and administrative responsibilities.
Her management style is described as respectful, flexible, dynamic and
inclusive. Lu actively engages colleagues in dialogues concerning every
project or policy impacting the patients and or staff. Utilizing their
input and suggestions, she implements improvements in practice and effects
positive changes in the workplace.
Lu is a vocal champion of individual talent. She is applauded for
supporting an ethic of respect and teamwork that recognizes and appreciates
the unique contributions made by each and every staff member. Her guidance
and mentoring helps the staff to manage issues effectively and attend to
patient needs with compassion and professionalism.
Described by one colleague as "a leader who hears the voice of the staff,
and inspires others to take charge," Lu is as comfortable at the bedside as
she is in the conference room. Her colleagues commend her for being
approachable and available to assist with "Cath Lab" procedures and direct
patient care activities. She transforms every task into an opportunity to
teach, share information, and enhance practice. A model of excellence in
leadership, Lu rules with her exceptional mind, and leads with her heart.
