Kathleen Carletta, RN
Specialty Nursing
CNIII
(Clinical Excellence Award)
Kathleen (Kathy) Carletta has a Master of Science degree from Rutgers
University and is certified as a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse
(ANCC).
Dedicated to the highest standards of practice, Kathy has been a presenter
at nursing grand rounds, and has served on several committees addressing
issues such as, the merger of the Behavioral Health Departments of NYH and
CPMC, QA/Performance Improvement, and Pride Projects. She is a gifted
clinician and mentor for the staff on 3RE, a 35-bed inpatient MICA Unit
serving psychiatric clients.
Kathy's dedication to providing the specialized treatment that is required
for positive patient outcomes has won her acclaim as an "outstanding
practitioner." When the team was confronted with a patient diagnosed with
an unusual psychiatric disorder, unfamiliar to some team members, Kathy was
immediately called upon. Having previously worked with two other patients
diagnosed with the syndrome, she contributed key clinical insights. After
conducting a literature search, she provided staff with information to
assure that this unique patient, like all of her patients, would receive
the best available care.
Indicative of her commitment to patients and the community, Kathy is
always, "first on the scene." Some time ago when a huge snowstorm hit the
city, she packed a bag and remained in the Hospital floating between units
where she was needed. In the wake of the horrifying events of 9/11, she
joined the volunteers at Area D, the Crisis Intervention Center serving the
emotional needs of individuals affected by the tragedy. According to a
fellow colleague, "Kathy is a hero, 365 days a year."
