GINA NICOLARI HUDSON
Behavioral Health Nursing Services
Westchester Division
Gina Nicolari Hudson chose NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Westchester
Division to begin her nursing career immediately after graduation
from the College of New Rochelle in 1999. While obtaining her BSN,
she was very much the student leader, organizing the college’s
health/career fair her senior year. Beginning as a staff nurse on
the Eating Disorder Unit, Gina brought to her role the leadership,
compassion and competent clinical skills she was developing in college.
Working with eating disorder patients on a daily basis is challenging
for the most seasoned nurse, yet Gina’s commitment to providing
the best possible care for her patients was evident from the start.
Her caring of one emaciated eating disorder patient gives us a glimpse
into who she is as a nurse. Placed on bedrest for several weeks for
medical stabilization, this patient was hopeless and dying. Gina
provided hope and support through her caring demeanor, consistent
and persistent nursing interventions, and numerous interactions with
the patient. The patient recovered and credits her remarkable progress
to the compassionate care received from Gina.
While developing her skills as a staff nurse, Gina has continued
to develop her leadership skills by joining the hospital wide Nursing
Recruitment and Retention Committee where she offers direct yet constructive
feedback as well as her graphic and computer skills. She is also
a member of the Behavioral Health Nursing Standards Committee where
she participates in improving policies, procedures and standards
of care across all campuses. In addition, Gina is enrolled in the
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Program at Pace University with an
expected graduation date of December 2003.
Due to her clinical excellence and ability to lead others, Gina was
recently promoted to the position of senior staff nurse for the new
Women’s Behavioral Health Unit, which opened September 2002.
While Gina holds all staff accountable for their work, she places
the same high standard on herself. She fosters an environment that
supports teamwork, which is an integral component to providing behavioral
health care. Her positive demeanor and warmth, her enthusiasm, professionalism,
and excellent clinical skills make Gina a role model for those who
work with her, inspiring staff to pursue the highest standards of
care, and patients to strive for their treatment goals.
It is with great pride that we recommend Gina Nicolari Hudson for
this deserved and prestigious award.
