Georgia Savery
Georgia Savery, RN
Medical/Surgical Nursing
CNIII
(Clinical Excellence Award)

Georgia Savery is a gifted clinician. She is certified in Medical/ Surgical Nursing and has an extensive background in the specialized care of cardiac patients. Colleagues on 6HN refer to Georgia as "a model of resourcefulness."

6HN is a fast paced, same day discharge, Interventional Cardiology Unit. Over the years, the Unit has undergone several transformations, from an Alternate Level of Care Unit (ALCU), to a Telemetry Unit, to its present purpose serving cardiac patients undergoing catheterization and other interventional procedures. Georgia acted as a "stabilizing force" during these transitions.

When 6HN was the ALC Unit, many of the patients required lengthy stays. Determining that boredom was counterproductive to healing, Georgia inspired patients to use their time for creative projects. She marshalled resources and provided the additional time and support to ensure that the patients and staff could share in successful outcomes.

While the focus of the Unit has changed considerably, Georgia's tireless dedication to quality patient-centered care has not. Embracing change as an opportunity for growth, she continues to advance her high tech knowledge in the service of improving patient care. Her post-op expertise and knowledge of cardiac conditions, medications and procedures is characterized by colleagues as "state-of-the science." Acutely aware of her patients' fears and concerns, Georgia finds time to listen and provide emotional solace. One colleague noted that Georgia, like some of her patients, has an enlarged heart. But in her case, "its enlarged by an extraordinary capacity for kindness."
