Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy
This is an operation to remove a kidney from a person willing to donate a kidney to a relative or friend who has kidney failure. The kidney is removed laparoscopically and then immediately transplanted into the recipient individual. Recovery after kidney donation when done laparoscopically is at least one month shorter than after traditional surgery. Many donors can return to work in as little time as 2 weeks.
