Overview

The Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the Phyllis and David Komansky Center for Children’s Health is committed to preventing and treating acute and chronic infectious diseases. It offers comprehensive and specialized, state-of-the-art medical care to diagnose and treat infants, children, and adolescents with acquired or congenital disorders of the immune system.

The Division provides inpatient and outpatient primary and consultative care for patients with illnesses known or suspected to be caused by infections with viruses, bacteria, fungi, or parasites. Diagnosis and therapy are also provided for infections that involve multiple body systems or infections of all major organ systems, including:

  • brain and spinal cord
  • bloodstream
  • heart
  • lungs
  • liver
  • spleen
  • pancreas
  • intestines
  • kidney and bladder
  • skin
  • joints
  • bones

Infectious disease specialists deliver care to patients with unusual or severe infections and those who have infections related to abnormal or weakened immune systems, including AIDS. Our specialists are available to advise parents who are planning international travel with their children. The Division of Pediatric Infectious Disease physicians can also address problems regarding immunizations or the management of antibiotic treatment.
