Child Protection
Overview
The Phyllis and David Komansky Center for Children’s Health is committed to keeping children out of harm's way, calling on its expertise in child advocacy and protection to provide programs that seek to prevent abuse and neglect and assist families that are victims.
The Child Protection team works closely with the Emergency Medicine Department, the William Randolph Hearst Burn Center, as well as with outpatient clinics and inpatient units to:
- Identify children who are suspected of being abused or neglected
- Coordinate evaluations
- Provide treatment and follow-up care, and
- Make referrals for intervention
Staff is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Our physicians serve as a resource for the city's judicial system and provide public education about issues relating to the safety of children.
