Light Up A Life Celebrates Halloween This Year at Chelsea Piers; Fun for All Ages at the Komansky Center's Annual Benefit with Honorary Chairs Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermann

The Twenty-Second Annual Light Up A Life takes place this year on Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at the Field House at Chelsea Piers (23rd Street and Hudson River Park between Piers 61 and 62), New York City. We are especially pleased to welcome Honorary Chairs Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) and Peter Hermann (War Horse).

Attendees will enjoy a festive afternoon featuring carnival games, batting cages, a rock climbing wall, pumpkin decorating, magical acts, gymnastics, and many other activities for all ages.

Light Up A Life is the signature family fundraising event for the NewYork-Presbyterian Phyllis and David Komansky Center for Children's Health, and is organized by members of the Komansky Center's Pediatric Support Committee. The event directly benefits a variety of pediatric programs including:

• Child Life Services: Child Life specialists reduce anxieties and normalize hospital experience for children and adolescents by offering activities geared to the social, emotional, and educational needs of young patients and their families.
• Clown Care Program: Clowns provided by the Big Apple Circus Clown Care Unit SM visit children to help brighten their hospital stay. Clowns are specially trained to work in the pediatric hospital environment.
• The Children's Emergency Medical Fund: This Fund ensures the finest medical care for young patients, regardless of a family's ability to pay.
• Komansky Center Family Advisory Council (FAC): The FAC is a group of concerned and dedicated family members of pediatric patients committed to working with Hospital staff and administration to improve family-centered care at the Komansky Center.
• Support for Pediatric Fellows: A portion of Light Up A Life proceeds help support postdoctoral training in pediatrics.
