Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome

Neuroleptic malignant syndrome is a severe problem that can occur as a result of taking an antipsychotic medicine. It can cause death. The exact cause of this syndrome is not known. The medicine may cause a problem in the way the body controls its temperature. A person who takes an antipsychotic medicine and has the following symptoms needs to see a health care provider right away:

  • High fever.

  • Changes in heart rhythm.

  • Changes in breathing.
