David P. Roye, MD, Director of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, has been selected as the 2009 American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Humanitarian of the Year Award winner. Dr. Roye, the St. Giles Foundation Professor of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery, will be presented with the award at the AAOS Annual Meeting in February.
The AAOS Humanitarian Award recognizes Fellows of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons who have distinguished themselves through outstanding musculoskeletal activities in the United States or abroad. The AAOS defines a humanitarian as, "One who endeavors to improve the human condition through saving lives and alleviating suffering while supporting and contributing to the basic human dignity of those in need. A humanitarian:
