Time 100: The "World's Most Influential People"

Joining such luminaries as the Dalai Lama, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Steve Jobs, two of our physician-scientists – Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Nicholas Schiff – have been named to the "Time 100", Time Magazine's annual list of the 100 world’s most influential people.

Dr. Oz was recognized for his compassion toward his own patients and for his commitment to communicating the message of good health to a broad audience.

Dr. Schiff received his honor for his research using deep brain stimulation for the treatment of near-coma patients, an approach that could significantly impact the standard of care in chronically unresponsive individuals.

The list was divided into five categories: leaders and revolutionaries; heroes and pioneers; artists and entertainers; builders and titans; and scientists and thinkers. Drs. Oz and Schiff were among only 19 individuals worldwide to be included in the category of scientists and thinkers. The only other medical centers that had representatives were Johns Hopkins and Indiana University of Medicine.
