Environmental Health and Safety

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Department of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital is staffed by multidisciplinary professionals with responsibilities for ensuring a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff, as well as, compliance with local, state, federal agency requirements in an array of areas.

Areas of responsibilities for EHS include but are not limited to the following:

Compliance and Audit - Maintain Environment of Care regulatory compliance, Proactive Risk Assessments, Hazardous Surveillance & Patient Safety Friday Tracking, and Environment of Care Manual Maintenance
Environmental Safety - Job Safety Assessments, Asbestos Management, Air Quality Assessments, Chemical Exposure Monitoring (ETO & Formaldehyde), Specialized Respiratory Fit Testing
Hazardous Materials & Waste - Hazardous Waste Vendor Management, Maintenance of Hazardous Material Rooms, Centralized Manifest Repository, Hazardous Materials Shipping, Emergency Spill Response
Chemical & Laboratory Safety - MSDS & Chemical Inventory Maintenance, Chemical Hygiene Plans, Chemical Purchase Approvals
Training - New Employee Orientation, Hazardous Materials, Environment of Care
