Centers of Excellence

AIDS Care
The Center for Special Studies at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell and the AIDS Care Program at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia provide comprehensive care for men, women, and children with HIV/AIDS. Both sites are New York State- and National Institutes of Health-designated AIDS Centers.
Burn Center
The William Randolph Hearst Burn Center, located at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, is the largest and busiest burn center in the nation, treating about 900 inpatients and 3500 outpatients annually. Its research in burn treatment has led to significant improvements in the survival rate and quality of life for adults and children.
Complementary Care Center
NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital is one of the first academic medical centers to investigate alternative methods of healing, including biofeedback and aromatherapy.
Digestive Diseases
The Digestive Disease Services of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital provide expert capabilities in gastrointestinal, liver and bile duct, pancreatic, and nutritional disorders. Patients benefit from the collaboration of gastroenterologists, hepatologists, surgeons, and a supportive care team from services including nursing, nutrition, genetics, and social work. Several centers within the Hospital's Digestive Disease Service specialize in treating patients with gastrointestinal and liver ailments: The Jay Monahan Center for Gastrointestinal Health, The Center for Advanced Digestive Care, The Center for the Study of Hepatitis C, The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Center for Colon and Rectal Surgery, and The Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation.
Gene Therapy
Innovative research programs at both NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell and NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia have made recent advances in treating conditions such as cardiac ischemia and atherosclerosis, breast cancer, and cystic fibrosis.
Preventive Medicine
Drawing on the expertise of all its Centers of Excellence, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has developed a comprehensive and coordinated approach to the prevention of disease. From physical examinations aimed at corporate executives to community wellness seminars, the Hospital and its physicians provide leadership in preventive medicine.
Reproductive Medicine and Infertility
NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has world-renowned programs specializing in infertility and assisted reproduction at both NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell and NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia. At both centers, leading physicians and scientists in reproductive medicine use innovative and cutting-edge technology for the comprehensive treatment of infertility in women and men, achieving success rates that are among the best in the world.
Trauma Center
NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital offers both a Level 1 Adult Trauma Unit and a regional Pediatric Trauma Unit.
Vascular Medicine
The Vascular Care Centers of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital have dedicated teams of vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, cardiologists, hematologists, nurses, technologists, and others who are able to treat all forms of vascular disease with proven therapies and, when appropriate, exciting new investigational modalities.
Weight Loss Surgery
The Bariatric Surgery Center at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and the Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center have been recognized by the American College of Surgeons as Centers of Excellence for bariatric and weight loss surgery. They were awarded the highest possible designation (1A) in recognition of their surgeons' ability to offer patients the best care available. They were also the first in NY State to be recognized as Centers of Excellence, and only one of seven nationwide. Level 1A bariatric surgery centers, the highest of five designated levels, are defined by the ACS as providing complete specialized care for all patients, including those with the most challenging and complex conditions, in order to ensure the best outcomes. Additionally, the centers' highly credentialed bariatric surgeons handle a high volume of cases.
Women's Health
NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital is among the first hospitals to establish special centers and programs for women's health. NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, where the Pap test was developed, recently established the state-of-the-art Iris Cantor Women's Health Center. The Hospital has six WIC centers (a federal and state program for low-income women, infants, and children at risk of poor nutrition) representing the largest such nonprofit program in the United States. The Center for Women's Health at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia Eastside also is among the top women's centers in the U.S.
