As part of its commitment to the care of older adults, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and its affiliated medical schools, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and Weill Cornell Medical College, bring a wide range of services together to form the Centers on Aging. The Centers on Aging collaborate with the other service groups within the Hospital to provide easy access to high-quality services that address all the healthcare needs of older adults. Our outstanding care for geriatric patients has earned our program a rank of 11th in the nation according to the 2012-2013 U.S.News & World Report™.

Under the guidance of leaders in the field of geriatrics, the Centers on Aging are strong in the hospital room, the classroom, and the laboratory. Dedicated inpatient units at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and at NewYork-Presbyterian/The Allen Pavilion ensure the best clinical care for older patients. The teaching and research programs at NewYork-Presbyterian are on the cutting edge of the study of aging and its effects. In addition, the Centers on Aging are proud to offer HealthOutreach, a free support program promoting health and quality of life for adults over 60 years of age.

The Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology in the Department of Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell is involved in clinical, research, and training activity. Various clinical and research activities closely related to geriatrics are conducted in other departments of the academic medical center, especially in neurology and psychiatry. Key physicians from these departments hold faculty positions in the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology's training programs. In the summer of 1999, the Weill Medical College of Cornell University formed the Weill Cornell Center of Excellence for Aging Research and Clinical Care, which integrates all geriatrics activities of the institution.

At NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia, clinical services tailored to the geriatric population are offered through the Departments of Medicine, Psychiatry, Neurology, and Social Work. Numerous geriatric research projects are underway in departments of the academic medical center, including Psychiatry and Pathology. NewYork-Presbyterian/The Allen Hospital offers a Geriatric Evaluation Management (GEM) Unit, a 23-bed unit designated for the evaluation and care of geriatric patients.
