NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has a long history of caring for the health needs of women. Whether a woman comes in for a routine gynecological exam, is preparing to give birth, or needs treatment for a disorder, the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology offer an outstanding breadth of services and options. In fact, in 2012-2013, our gynecology program ranked among the best in the nation in the annual Best Hospitals survey conducted by U.S. News & World Report™.

Both Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Hospital – one at the Sloane Hospital for Women at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center and another at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center – offer patients everything they should expect from a first-rate women's health service. Both Departments provide peace of mind for a woman having a baby or a woman who needs treatment for conditions of the reproductive organs, such as the vulva, vagina, cervix, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and uterus.

In addition, NewYork-Presbyterian provides a full range of gynecologic surgery for the treatment of benign gynecologic disorders, including pelvic tumors, genital anomalies, and pelvic floor defects. The latest laser surgery techniques are available as well, and many procedures can be performed on an ambulatory basis. Gynecologic oncologists provide state-of-the-art care for patients with cancer or precancerous conditions of the lower reproductive tract. Also, both NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia and NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell offer centers for reproductive medicine.

The Center for Prenatal Pediatrics at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia is dedicated to helping pregnant women and their families when a significant birth defect or genetic disorder – including congenital heart defects, genetic syndromes, fetal chest anomalies, and other birth defects – has been detected in their unborn baby. To assist our patients with the complexities of coordinating diagnostic testing, visits with multiple subspecialists, and scheduling therapeutic procedures; and to provide each patient with all the information they need to make the best choices for the mother, baby, and family, we work to ensure that each patient receives highly personalized, seamless care.

At our Center, we provide:

A care coordinator for each patient with who oversees insurance issues, conveniently schedules diagnostic testing and meetings with subspecialists on the same day, and facilitates communication between physicians and patients.
A comprehensive care conference that summarizes the results of the day's consultations, so that each patient has a complete and accurate picture of their medical situation.
A recommended program of care, complete with follow-up and coordination with the referring doctor.

The Sloane Hospital for Women also features several Centers that offer specialized care. The Center for Endometriosis Treatment and Research provides state-of-the-art care and pioneering research to identify the causes of endometriosis, and diagnose, treat, and prevent this chronic condition. The Center is the first of its kind in New York. The Center for Women's Minimal Access Surgery at the Sloan Hospital for Women is dedicated to providing women with advanced surgical techniques, both for diagnostic and treatment purposes, which minimize the surgery, as well as the pain, cost, recovery time, and the impact of surgery on day-to-day life. The Center for Menopause, Hormonal Disorders, and Women's Health was founded to evaluate and treat women at a critical time of medical need in their lives with a team of experts who are knowledgeable in the latest treatment.

The Iris Cantor Women's Health Center at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell consists of specialists in all areas of women's health with a special emphasis on preventative medicine, nutrition, breast cancer, osteoporosis, menopause, and infectious disease.

In addition to excellent services in all aspects of women's health, NewYork-Presbyterian's Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology includes high-risk obstetricians who provide specialty care for pregnant women with a history of difficult or failed pregnancies, as well as those with diabetes, hypertension, or other medical disorders. Fetal anomalies are diagnosed and, in some cases treated, in the fetal ultrasound unit using state-of-the-art sonography, fetal echocardiograms, and percutaneous umbilical blood sampling (PUBS). A comprehensive genetic counseling service provides support and information for couples who are considering testing procedures, such as amniocentesis and chronic villus sampling for fetal genetic disorders.
